Air India Pilot Arrested
At Vancouver (CYVR) Airport
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed on Friday that a commercial airline pilot was arrested at Vancouver International Airport after it was discovered the pilot was under the influence of alcohol prior to departure.
The Richmond RCMP released a brief statement indicating that a pilot was arrested on December 23rd, after investigating a concern related to a crew member preparing to report for duty. The flight was delayed for several hours before departing safely later that day.
Transport Canada and a Vancouver International Airport (YVR) spokesperson provided additional information, which confirms that on December 23, 2025, the RCMP responded to a concern regarding an Air India crew member prior to the airline's scheduled daily flight from Vancouver to Delhi.
According to Transport Canada, section 602.03 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations, pilots and crew members are prohibited from acting within 12 hours after consuming an alcoholic beverage. Furthermore, it states that pilots or crew members are not permitted to act while under the influence of alcohol or while using any drug that impairs their faculties to the extent that the safety of the aircraft or persons on board is endangered in any way.
The pilot has been relieved of flying duties during the ongoing investigation. Air India adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding any violation of applicable rules and regulations.
Further questions should be referred to RCMP, Transport Canada, or Air India.
